I cannot even begin to describe how much I loved this book. I am so sad because I totally missed the fact that this is book 1 and there will be a sequel, and the wait will be torture..."Two souls that find each other in dire circumstances. A girl searching for a purpose in life. A man that knows nothing but death"
Sarai has been under a Mexican Drug lord’s thumb for nine years. She was taken there by her mother and she never chose the life for herself. She wants to escape, she wants to be free. She’s been patiently waiting for a chance and the opportunity comes when an American visits the compound she's being held at. She doesn't know anything about him, but sees him as her only route to escape. Little she knows that the man is a professional Hitman.
Victor sees something in Sarai and he helps her, risking everything he has worked for during his entire life. He is cold, void of emotion totally locked in himself. But circumstances and events takes them on a ride that changes their lives forever.
The book is amazing, really. Sarai is strong and witty, intelligent and full of rage. I liked her as a heroine, and she has become one of my favorites so far. Victor, what can I say, he is a bad guy I mean, conventionally and morally speaking he is, but I could not avoid loving him.. he was like.. wow.."You shoot women” I say quietly. …. The American presses his foot on the brake and looks at me again. “Flesh Wounds,” he says and shifts the car into Drive. “She’ll live. And that one was hardly a woman.”
The story is well told, gripping. I could not put the book down. Everything was perfectly explained and connected, I did not find gaps in the storyline and found it believable. This was a mix of Hitman the videogame, Nikita-ish, Assassin’s Creed… and believe me I am a geek when it comes to these type of stories …. Mix it with romance and you got me hooked for life!!!!”…the quiet, reserved, intimidating assassin who, for reasons unknown to me, I almost feel completely safe with.”"My face just gets hotter and hotter, and every time I see him smile or grin, because I’m completely not used to seeing that, it just makes me blush more and it feels like a hundred drunk butterflies are having an orgy in my stomach"
Now for the interesting part, the steamy factor: Do not be fooled this book is hardly about sex, it is not an erotic tale, NO. It is hot and swoony at some point, but the story is so well told that the relationship and the feelings build slowly and true to character’s traits. Be patient because you will get to see them together around the 80% mark ”This goes against everything that I am, Sarai,” … “No it doesn’t”… “It’s you becoming more of who you really are.””I don’t think that this thing between us is love, or even lust. It’s something else, something powerful and unmistakable that neither of us have been able to ignore.”
It made me cry in the end, there was so much emotion and, I ended up falling for Victor completely.
If you like darker, grittier stories and you don’t mind dead bodies, this book is a must read; an adventure you don’t want to miss.
I NEED BOOK 2 LIKE….NOW!
